Archiving of COPA1_L000

$

Hi Experts,

We are archiving the COPA1_L000 (Costing-based CO-PA, operating concern L000), records are successfully writing to the file but complete spool is not generating i.e which are the records are considering and which are not for archiving in write step and also all the records are not considered for archiving (i.e totally  8,81,206 records are existing for a particular period & out of which it considers only  10,323 records for archiving) and its not displaying any message regarding the same.

Could you please suggest that  what we have to do to generate complete spool and to  consider all 881206 records for archiving (screen shot for refer)

Thanks,

How to calculate DB saving upon implementation of Housekeeping job or an archiving object?

$

Hi All

Seeking your help here.

Let me know how you guys calculate DB saving after implementing a housekeeping job or after implementing any archiving object.

This is what I thought of, need your inputs on this or if you have a simpler approach.

Scenario 1. Housekeeping job

-Find out the relevant tables for deletion

- Use T-code DB02  to find the no. of entries and size for each table

- Calculate the average / day growth of entries and size of each table

- Start the job and once it is complete, check the left over entries again and the size in each table.

If the job takes 2 days to completion then subtract the no. of expected entries for 2 days  from the leftover entries and accordingly the size in each table. Now subtract the outcome from the pre execution size from each table and the result will be the expected  total DB saving.

Scenario 2. Archiving

--Perform TAANA for all the tables for deletion. and take DB02 entries and size for all the tables for deletion.

--XXX

Need your help in both the scenarios. May be this question sounds a bit silly but I am really struggling to show the total DB saving.

Or if you have developed an excel tool which can help in this.

Thank You

Hi GURUS

You all must be providing DB savings to your client, which must be adding huge value to all SAP data archiving projects,

Please let me know how do you calculate that. I apologies I have asked the question before also, but I did not get the exact answer.

Any pointers or any Excel sheet calculator will be helpful.

Problem on archieving Material Master (con2)

Dear Experts,

My problem is related to the following Forums -

http://scn.sap.com/thread/3505830

http://scn.sap.com/thread/3875362

I recently tested to archieve another Finished Good Material and found the following errors –

MBEW: 8200 plant is assigned to the valuation area

Message no. W4031

Diagnosis

The material cannot be archived for this valuation area since the material is still used in dependent tables.

Procedure

Delete these dependencies. You can then archive the material for the valuation area.

MARC: 8200 dependent special stocks at the customer exist

Message no. W4098

Procedure

Reduce the dependent special stocks of the material at the customer's to zero. You can then archive the material.

MARA:  Dependent material master data still exists

Message no. W4134

I think the main problem should be the 2nd error “W4098” but I found there is already no any stock in MMBE & MB52, and the last movement of this FG was on 23.12.2006. Even if I had archieved this FG in special stock object “MM_SPSTOCK”. The above errors were still found when archieving through Material Master object “MM_MATNR”.

Could you advise how to fix the above errors so as to archieve the FG Material ?

Archiving Customer Tables (Y*, Z*) with ILM

Hi,

With standart ADK, it is only possible to archive customer tables (aka Y* Z* tables) if you create customer Archiving Objects (AO's).

What if we want to use ILM in our Data Archive Project?

ilm.png

Slide from ILM (above) lets you feel that it is possible to archive/decommission any table from source system to storage system e.g. Sybase IQ

Doculink User Exit

I need Some examples of user exits used in Doculink. This very new to me and i have no idea what to do.

Sap shows the below text......

Event of customer exit to attribute objects

In various places DocuLink gives you the chance to execute your own ABAP code. DocuLink calls your own function modules, which should have a specified interface.

You can get the possible user exits using F4 help. Get more information using the F1 help for function modules to user exits.

You can find some more (attribute object independent) user exits in the overview of objects for a version.

As a rule, user exits are generally not released for implementation in projects created by customers or partners! Please ask your IXOS consultant for more information.

I am trying to Insert FM to Doculink, But My program was terminated.

Please Help me if anybody knows.......

Any help will be appreciated.

Using a Bath Analogy to Understand OLAP System Growth for BW, BWoH, Native HANA

$

0

The following applies to BW, BWoH, Native HANA and any OLAP system that uses an LSA or LSA++ design to stage data at least once and then report on it.

bath.png

A useful analogy to understanding system size and the Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) process as it impacts OLAP systems is to think of the OLAP system as a bath.  There is some water in it, that's your data and represents your current system size.  The system has data flowing in from various source systems, so the taps of the bath are on.  Perhaps the taps are just trickling, perhaps they're full blast but either way if you do nothing the bath will eventually overflow (there is no overflow pipe here).  So you take out the plug of the bath to represent how much data you're able to dispose of.

This analogy is useful because it becomes clear that it is not the amount of water in the bath (current system size) or the bath size (maximum system size) that is really important.  A bigger bath might buy time (and cost more in licensing and maintenance in meantime), but what is really important is how the inflow and outflow amounts compare now and in the future.

If the outflow exceeds inflow eventually the bath will empty.  If inflow exceeds outflow eventually it will overflow.  For sustainable system usage, you need inflow and outflow to be about the same.  If someone sticks a fire hose over the edge of the bath and turns it on (perhaps there is a new rollout or a new source system and lots new transactions are arriving) then you're going to need a bigger plughole.

Now, in reality with our OLAP system, we don't just take data in from outside, of course.  We also generate data inside the system itself.  This comes from writing logs and from enhancing and replicating data as it moves through a typical LSA design.  There isn't really a good analogy for this with the bath, it is like water being generated inside the bath itself from the existing water.  Perhaps as the water lands in the bath from the taps, it roils and bubbles and grows larger in volume.

In reality, the outflow is a bit more complicated too.  We can delete data entirely (e.g. delete logs using housekeeping) and we can relocate data to another storage medium where we can still access it in some way.  Depending on your OLAP system this external storage medium could use NLS, Dynamic Tiering or the Non-Active Data concept.  Perhaps we can think of two plugholes, one going to the drain (deletion) and one draining off to another bath (another storage medium).

Pushing the analogy thus far, we can sketch out the inflows and outflows like this:

flows.png

Green arrows are data inflows, red arrows are data outflows.  Now we know we want inflow and outflow to be about the same, which is another way of saying that inflow divided by outflow should be approximately equal to one.  Ideally inflow divided by outflow will be <1 as often as possible because the times when this is true is when the system is shrinking.  From the above diagram we can produce the following equation.  We'd like this equation to be true as often as possible:

equation.png

This equation shows what you need to focus on to manage system size.  Some observations can be made:

Minimising the data created internally (b) is a good idea.  In typical LSA designs the data created internally (b) will greatly exceed the inbound data (a), as you're likely to be replicating it at least two or three times.  This is an important point.  This means less staging and more virtualisation is desirable, which is of course one of the tenets of LSA++.  This tells us that implementing LSA++ makes managing system size easier.

Maximising the volume of data deleted (d) is also a good idea.  This means implementing good housekeeping of course (to address the logs written), but also making sure that transactional data is really being used in reports.  If you dig into this enough, this leads to these questions:

  • Is transactional data being used at all in reports?  This should be easy enough to acertain from examining report usage.
  • Is transactional data really needed at the level of granularity that it is stored at?
  • Are all data subsets used?  For example, are all currency types really in use?
  • Is there any spurious data being stored that could never be reported on?  You may be surprised how many data stores have blank fiscal periods, blank company codes, that have built up over time.  These may never appear in any report, and could also be deleted.

Queries on Archiving Info structure

$

Hi,

In Archiving i have noticed that an Archiving object has one or more infostructures available and some objects has no infostructures at all.

1.How to identify the Info structures from multiple for Activation?

2.If i activate two info structures for an object, wat happens?

3.Table AIND_STR1 has infostructures for almost all objects but when i enter the same info structure in sarj it says no info structure found.

Ex: MM_EINA(Purchase info records) has no info structure avialbele in sarj, but there exists an info structure (SAP_MM_EINA_AS) in the table AIND_STR1 for the same object, how to use this for archiving?

Kindly clarify the doubts.

regards,

Mans.
